Tātai is a solo piece that showcases several generations of wāhine (women) who are related through whakapapa (genealogy). It was first performed in English at the Globe Theatre in 2003 and again after being translated in 2009 at Allen Hall Theatre for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. There are several layers of language used in this version which reflect the wāhine portrayed as they transit across time. The intention in having these layers of women and language, including Pākehā is to demonstrate the effects of change and colonisation on not only iwi Māori but on te reo.
