All Ages

Southern Jam is the only event of its kind in the South Island; it’s a great opportunity for young musicians to learn from other great, well respected musicians; and for you to be among the first to experience the South Island’s next wave of musical talent.

The performers in Southern Jam Youth Jazz Festival are all senior school students aged between 13 and 18. If you have attended Southern Jam before you’ll know that the performances include big band sounds and mellow swinging rhythms; most importantly the music is of the highest calibre, which is why the event attracts big name judges. All leading national or international performers!

In the lead up to the Gala Concert, you’ll be able to attend some public performances, these offer the students a chance to develop their confidence and allow them to experience what it’s really like to play to an audience. As part of the audience, not only will you enjoy great entertainment, you’ll also experience some wonderful Marlborough hospitality at local eateries, bars and social clubs.

This event is of great benefit to your region, it brings visitors into Marlborough during the winter months; many of the schools bring a team of supporters who are ready to dine in your restaurants and spend in your shops, so let’s show them a welcome party as only Marlburians can! Stayed tuned for updates on the Public Performance schedule around Marlborough

The Gala Concert
It will be a wonderful concert which showcases pieces from all the schools who participate in this years event. The concert will also feature the 2016 All Stars Band compiling of the top musicians of this years festival. Finally but not least the audience will be pleased to have the chance to hear the Winning Schools performing from their repertoire as well as the ARA Institute of Canterbury judges who have performed at festivals and concert engagements throughout New Zealand and overseas and some members of the band with the likes of Dave Dobbyn & Jimmy Barnes to Scribe.

Please connect with Marlborough4Fun on Facebook, so we can share a direct link to ticket sales when the event goes live.
