Joyart Studio

Mosaic is an extremely versatile and exciting art. There is almost no limit to what you can use as a base and materials to choose from for your design. A perfect way to recycle your broken china, leftover tiles, mirror or glass into an amazing piece of art. The beach offers great pickings as well: shells, pebbles, tiny driftwood and smooth pieces of glass. Mosaic is a great way to relax, to unwind and to create fascinating and inspiring artwork at a low cost.

The emphasis of this workshop is on teaching the craftsmanship: to learn what kind of bases & materials to choose confidently, how to use them correctly and to understand mosaic designing techniques.

What you can expect from this 4-week course:
- Basic techniques of mosaic design and setting
- Effective and safe use of tools
- How to choose and prepare your base
- Correct use of water resistant or weatherproof adhesive and materials
- How to use different materials in your design (Tiles, mirror, glass, shells, pebbles, china)
- How to grout and seal your mosaic
- Handouts covering mosaic materials, bases, adhesives, sealer, grout and tips
- Fun and heaps of encouragement

What to bring:
- A base for your mosaic (e.g. terracotta pot, board, concrete paver, picture frame...) and materials for your design (I will email a detailed list at enrolment).
- A design for your mosaic. If you need some inspiration, I have some simple patterns you can trace and use.
- All Joyart tools can be used free of charge.

Running time: The course will run over 4 consecutive weeks, two hours each week.
Refreshments: Tea, Coffee and filtered water and some home baking will be supplied free of charge.

Cost includes tools and handouts (gift vouchers available).

Additional workshops are available on request. Should the dates not suit you, please get in contact with me. I am more than happy to run another class at a date that will suit you (minimum of 4 people per class, waiting list available).
