The Canterbury Car Club and SKOPE Industries will celebrate the annual SKOPE Classic on February 5th, 6th and 7th.
Previously known as the BP Alfa and the PDL Classic, this is the 25th event of what has become known as the most entertaining Historic and Classic meeting in New Zealand.

To honour the occasion the feature class this year will be the Historic Touring Cars, among its ranks many of the most envied racing saloon cars ever to take to a race circuit, with many of the most desirable coming out to play at the SKOPE Classic. Literally millions of dollars’ worth of machinery will come out to entertain those who look back with great memories of the British and World Touring Car Championships and of course closer to home the Wellington Street Races where for a very brief time, famous drivers and their cars came down under to provide a spectacle not seen since.

The SKOPE Classic 2016 will see both the stars and the cars with Jim Richards, Tony Longhurst, Gianfranco Brancatelli, and Colin Bond joining us. The cars, where to start? From the seventies, Gary Wilkinsons Zakspeed Escort and Roger Townshends Cologne Capri, are just two of a star studded lineup beginning with the predecessor to the M3, Peter Thorbys genuine ex Longhurst works 325, Murray Sinclairs similar car in JPS colours and Nick Youngs replica, and to the well performed M3 itself, with several examples of original cars, including Brancatelli who will drive the same CiBiemme M3 he drove in 1987. Add to this the large family saloon racing cars such as the Rover Vitesse, the Volvo, The Jaguar XJS and the homegrown Holden Commodore that took on the BMW 635csi, perhaps the most famous, the JPS liveried car, to be raced by Jim Richards in its newly fitted out Group C spec which looks and sounds just magnificent. As the years ticked by the next generation E36 BMW’s featured in NZ and Australia in various versions of Touring Car racing, one of which will be raced by Tony Longhurst and another two or three will join him at Ruapuna. Enter too the Japanese Godzilla turbo powered Nissan GTR which effectively brought down the curtains on the production car era and the advent of what became known as the Aussie V8’s with Ford vs Holden rivalry. In New Zealand 2 ltr touring cars continued on the back of Paul Radisich ‘s exceptional performances in the British Touring Cars which was also centred around a 2 litre engine capacity.

Presale weekend passes available from Silvester V8 Performance, Avon City Ford, Repco stores (Chch & Kaiapoi) for only $50
