Opihi College

Opihi College will undergo some major changes over the next few years. Our main classroom buildings at the college will be demolished and in their place the Ministry of Education will build a new Innovative Learning Environment (ILE). The Board of Trustees, teachers and students at Opihi College are participating in a thorough self-reflection and making some significant decisions about the future of teaching and learning at the school.

As part of the preparation for these changes, we are pleased to be able to screen the film Most Likely to Succeed which is sure to spark discussion and debate about what is possible for our future. We invite the Temuka community as well as all others interested in the future of education in New Zealand to attend.

This feature-length documentary examines the history of public education, revealing the growing shortcomings of conventional education methods in today’s innovative world. The film explores compelling new approaches that aim to revolutionise teaching as we know it. After seeing this film, the way you think about “school” will never be the same.

Directed by acclaimed documentarian Greg Whiteley, the film has been named “among the best edu-documentaries ever produced” by Education Week, and called a “smart and engaging look at education in the 21st century” by The Hollywood Reporter. Film Threat stated that “this film should be a required course for all parents and educators.” Most Likely to Succeed is an official selection of many top film festivals, including the prestigious 2015 Sundance Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival.
