Keep an eye out for the Safer Plates events happening across the city this summer. These events are to help secure vehicle registration plates by replacing the regular screws with a tamper-resistant variety.

This is a joint initiative between Wellington Community Patrols, New Zealand Police and Wellington City Council and will take place in Countdown Supermarket car parks.

There are two Safer Plates events planned for February.

10-2pm Saturday 13 February - Tawa Countdown, 3 Main Rd, Tawa
10-2pm Saturday 20 February - Crofton Downs Countdown, 120 Churchill Dr, Crofton Downs

A $5 donation is all it will cost to have the tamper-proof screws fitted to your number plates. All proceeds go to supporting your local Community Patrol.

The New Zealand Fire Service and Safe Kids will be there to talk about driveway and home fire safety.

For more information about these events call Wellington City Council on 04 499 4444.
