Reggae By the River is back this December and thrilled to announce that UB40, featuring the original members Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, will be headlining!

Reggae By The River is now a regular feature in the Taupo summer season and this year will be the biggest yet. This concert will sell fast! Over 35,000 people enjoyed their popular brand of reggae in January with some shows selling out in hours.

L.A.B (KORA Brothers) will be bringing back their high energy to Reggae By The River. A massive crowd favourite last time and for good reason. Comprised of the popular KORA brothers Brad and Stu, plus talented soulful vocalist and guitarist Joel Shadbolt and Rory Macartney on bass, festival-goers will love their mix of electronica meets soul, funk and blues.

The award-winning Modern Maori Quartet will also join the bill with a special ‘reggae’ set they are developing especially for this show. This suave Maori showband are in the same vein as forebears such as the Quin Tikis and the Howard Morrison Quartet. Made up of accomplished musicians and actors James Tito, Maaka Pohatu, Matariki Whatarau and Francis Kora (bass guitarist and vocalist with major kiwi band KORA), who hail from different corners of Aotearoa and perform together as the core members of MMQ. Together this talented bunch will weave their musical and acting abilities into an evening of hearty humour and sweet music.

Time Change Due to Licencing Concerns:
Times for Reggae By The River in Taupo have changed because of licensing concerns.
The concert will now start at midday and run through to 6pm instead of the previously advertised 4pm to 10pm. UB40 will take the stage and 4pm and play a full two-hour set of their biggest hits.

The concert will be the same in every other way and fans are in for a very enjoyable afternoon of entertainment from UB40 and other support acts. The party just starts earlier!

We are disappointed we have been forced to change the time of the concert despite three incident-free years of hosting the festival in Taupo – and many other concerts around New Zealand. The event attracts a well-behaved family crowd. UB40 appeal across age-groups and ethnicities, their concerts are one big sing-a-long and a LOT of fun.

After weeks of negotiation, we must respect the police concerns and the best way forward was to start the concert earlier so concertgoers could enjoy a drink and entertainment.

A Special Licence has now been granted for the new hours, so concert-goers will be able to choose from a wide range of wines, beers, cider and RTDs and well as some great food.

Ticket purchasers who are unable to get to the concert at the earlier time should return to the point of purchase, Eventfinda or My Music Taupo. We thank you for your support and understanding.
