Mourn with the Regent Theatre at the passing of yet another of our music legends with this special screening of Prince’s 1984 film debut, Purple Rain.

The Kid (Prince) is the talented but troubled frontman of his Minneapolis-based band The Revolution. To escape his difficult home life – his father is verbally and physically abusive, and his mother is emotionally abusive – he spends his days rehearsing and his nights performing at the First Avenue nightclub.

Did you know:
Purple Rain is loosely based on Prince’s own life. Prince gave director Albert Magnoli about 100 songs to choose from for the film, and three that made the cut – When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, and Take Me With You weren’t even on the original list. Prince won an Oscar for the now defunct category Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1984.

The Purple Rain soundtrack spent 24 weeks at Number 1 on the Billboard charts although the title track only hit Number 2. Most of the music featured in the film was recorded live.

Run time: 111 mins
