Researching Collections from Cook’s First Voyage.
Public talk by Julie Adams, Curator of the Oceanica collections at the British Museum

After The Endeavour returned to England in 1771, the artefacts collected by the crew made their way into the collections of European museums. In this talk, curator Julie Adams, discusses objects from Cook’s first voyage now held at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Cambridge, UK. Recent research suggests these collections were Cook's own and many, it seems likely, were collected along the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island.

Julie Adams is curator of the Oceania collections at the British Museum in London. Previously she spent four years working at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Cambridge researching early voyage collections held in European museums.

With thanks to The Newton International Fellowship funded by the British Academy.
