Possum Punishment PTA Fundraiser.

Hunting begins on Thursday the 16th at 10am and ends on Sunday the 19th with all possums needing to be in by 10 am to the collection point at the Rerewhakaaitu Domain.

Registration forms are available by contacting the school office.

Prizes are for the most possums caught over the three days and second most possums caught.

1st prize - $500 cash, 2nd prize $400 cash and vouchers. Many spot prizes. If your team collects at least 20 possums, each firearms license holder goes in the draw for a .22 rifle supplied by Hunting & Fishing Rotorua.

Notes from the rules.
1. Possums may be shot, trapped or poisoned.
2. Entrants must hold a current firearms license or be under direct supervision of a license holder. If the team is poisoning, a current Poison License must be held.
3. Those shooting must obey all firearms regulations. Be safe, not sorry! Remember, alcohol and guns never mix. Identify what is beyond and around your target or the consequences could be tragic!
4. Road rules apply when on all roads (i.e. people must be inside vehicles with seatbelts on, not on the back of utes, etc.) Do not overload vehicles.
5. Competitors must have the owner’s permission and any necessary permits to enter and hunt on private property. Only one team may hunt on each property and must take special care when hunting boundaries to avoid contact with other teams.
6. Possums caught on Thursday must be dropped at the Rerewhakaaitu Hall on Friday afternoon between 3 – 3.30pm and possums caught Friday must be dropped at Rerewhakaaitu Hall on Saturday between 3 – 3.30pm. You must collect an official receipt before leaving the area. Teams who drop off their possums on Friday and Saturday go in the draw to win one prize of $50 cash each day Friday 12th and Saturday the 13th June.
7. Frozen or badly disfigured possums will not be accepted. .22 headshots appreciated.
8. All possums entered in the competition become the property of Lake Rerewhakaaitu School as they may be skinned or plucked for fundraising.
9. The judge’s decision is final.
10. There will be two categories of spot prizes – adult and child. Each entrant receives one ticket (chance) on entry and teams can earn extra tickets dependant on the number of animals caught. One extra ticket for every 5 possums or 15 rodents (maximum of 10 extra tickets for rodents).
11. Lake Rerewhakaaitu School and the organisers will not be responsible for injuries, damage or loss to property or people. By participating in the shoot, participants realise that there is a risk of injury or death in any outdoor activity and accept all responsibility. Participants enter at their own risk.
12. Teams must carry first aid kits and have a mobile phone on them while hunting.
13. Firearms licenses must be sighted at the prizegiving before any ammunition or firearms prizes can be claimed.
14. Contestants must be present at the prizegiving to claim prizes. If not claimed immediately, they will forfeit and be redrawn.
15. No firearms or ammunition are to be brought to the prize giving. Lock them away!
16. Cyanide possums are to be kept in a separate area roped off and laid on a groundsheet. Any entrants using cyanide must have a Controlled Substance Licence.
17. Instant disqualification for breaching the rules with no refunds given.
18. No cats, goats, deer, rats or pigs are to be present on Sunday.
19. All entrants that shoot or see live wallabies, complete the details on the wallaby information form.
