Come fly with us at the 4th annual Otaki Kite Festival, one hour’s drive north of Wellington, presented by the Otaki Promotions Group Inc.

Or take the train to Waikanae and hop onboard our Free Kite Bus that will take you to the outlet shops on SH1 and on to the beach. The bus will depart from Waikanae on the hour from 10.20am. The bus will begin returning to Waikanae on the hour at 10.50am. See our website for full timetable.

Fun for all the family, this free event brings together NZKA kite fliers from all around New Zealand, Peter Lynn Kites of Ashburton and international guest kite fliers - Mikio Toki (Japan) & Tony Rice (Australia) - to showcase their artistry, design and flying skills. Spectacular kites of all shapes, sizes and styles thrill those viewing from the beach, above the dunes and the Pavilion roof - expect to be delighted by the sight of massive inflatable kites, stained glass window and bug kites through to tiny fluttering seagull kites.

Bring your own kite and join in the fun - spot prizes on both afternoons (1pm-2pm) for children's and families' homemade kites flying at the beach.

Visit our food and drink vendors located around the site and browse the market stalls to find something special to take home! Be sure to look out for the kiddies’ entertainment area too, including bouncy castle, merry-go-round and face painting. You can hire a bike from Kapiti Cycle's stand and go exploring or you can bring your own bike down for a free basic tune-up.

There will be entertainment on the beach including fighting kite battles and stunt kite flying demonstrations. Various groups will perform on-stage throughout the weekend including the All Stars Cheerleaders, Mukume Taiko Drummers (Sunday), the debut performance from local group Hottie (12.30pm both days) and remember to find a really good spot to enjoy The Beat Girls from 4-5.00pm both days.

Public kite making workshops (Wellington - it was fantastic - see our FB page!) in Otaki - places still available on the Wednesday, March 2nd workshops. Workshops listed separately. See website for details.
