The Tūpuna Maunga Authority warmly invites all members of the public to attend the dawn planting ceremony to mark the first phase of returning a tree to the tihi (summit) of Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill.

Representatives from Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau, the Tūpuna Maunga Authority, Auckland Council and local community will plant a small grove with a total of nine young tōtara and pohutukawa where the former tree stood. The aim is that after a decade, a single pohutukawa or tōtara will remain standing on the tihi.

Come and be a part of this historic moment for Auckland.

Road closure and shuttle service:
This significant event is likely to attract a large number of people and space on the tihi is very limited.

The road to the tihi will be closed for the event to allow the safe movement of pedestrians, however a shuttle will run between the Stardome Observatory at the base of Maungakiekie and the tihi from 7am. Those who are able to walk to the tihi are encouraged to do so.

Free breakfast:
Breakfast will be served after the ceremony in a marquee beside the entrance to Stardome Observatory for those who would like to attend. There will be short speeches and information about the planting will be on display.
