As documentarians of Aotearoa, New Zealand, the artists presented in this exhibition have all made work in response to the social and cultural history embedded within the land in which they inhabit.

The work is linked by how each photograph reveals something about its subject – a specific site that embodies its own narrative, trying to reveal something of the photographers’ position as tangata titiri (people of the treaty, non Māori citizens of New Zealand). Shot in various regions around the country which have gone and continue to go through phases of significant transition, this exhibition questions our understanding of place and memory.
