Celebrating 75 years of the Royal New Zealand Navy

2016 marks the 75th Anniversary of the foundation of Te Taua Moana, our Navy. The Royal New Zealand Band presents a special anniversary concert as part of a programme of celebrations collectively named Operation Neptune. The name “Operation Neptune” has been chosen to highlight the greatest single loss ever sustained by our Navy when HMS Neptune was sunk off the coast of Libya on 19 December 1941. The band will pay special tribute the brave sailors who lost their lives that day, while celebrating the proud history of 75 years of the Royal New Zealand Navy.

The Royal New Zealand Navy Band is one of the principal military bands in New Zealand and is comprised of the country’s best wind, brass and percussion players. The band’s concerts are renowned for their varied and family-friendly programmes, showing the versatility of the musicians on stage Conducted by Leading Musician Colin Clark, this concert promises to be an entertaining and moving event celebrating 75 years of the Royal New Zealand Navy.
