At this Monica Brewster Evening meet Geoffrey Batchen, curator of the exhibition 'Emanations: The Art of the Cameraless Photograph'. Geoffrey Batchen is a world-renown photography historian and also Professor of Art History at Victoria University of Wellington. Focusing on some of Emanations' abstract photographs, made in the 1940s and ‘50s, Geoffrey will explain the motivations of the artists by putting them in a larger social and cultural context as well as discussing aspects of the current Emanations exhibition. Enjoy a drink and nibbles until 6:30pm and an opportunity to meet our speaker afterward.

'Emanations' explores the magic of photography in its most primal and elemental form, featuring more than 200 images made without a camera, it is the first historical survey of cameraless photography to be held anywhere in the world. Its theme is inspired by Len Lye's cameraless photographs from 1930 and 1947.
