Minhal Al Halabi

All welcome to visit and talk to the artist about his work, as he paints in the gallery. Minhal has worked in sculpture and painting nationally and internationally, we are privileged to host him in Kerikeri. A special exhibition of new work by Minhal Al Halabi of new work.

Minhal Al Halabi was born in Maj-del, a small village in the Golan Heights.
From a large apple orchardist's family, finding something to paint on was sometimes difficult, so Minhal had to sometimes resort to firewood as his canvas.

At 18 Minhal studied for a year at an art institute in Ukraine. He then returned to his village to paint murals inside houses. Minhal then travelled to South Africa and continued painting murals. After spending some time there, his attention was drawn to New Zealand, finally settling in Central Otago.

Minhal's works in various mediums from painting to sculpture including bronze, he had done private commissioned murals and sculpture including William Rees, the founder of Queenstown, which is in the Mall at the Lake front there. He has done a life size bronze statue "Race to the Sky" dedicated to Possum Bourne, a bronze sculpture of Les Harvey founder of Parnell Village Auckland.

This exhibition is recent work and new work Minhal made on site, during his residency at Kaan Zamaa 14 - 19 June.
