NZ School of Music Classical Guitar students presents a concert including works from J.S. Bach, Warlock, Dyens and more - spanning 5 centuries of composers.

J.S. Bach is commonly known for his great choral works, violin partitas, cello suites, Brandenburg concertos, and masterful contrapuntal writing. Amongst classical guitar enthusiasts, it is believed that Bach was also fond of the lute's sound and having owned two lute-harpsichords and being good friends with the lutenistSylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750) he wrote a set of lute suites. The lute-harpsichord had the manual of a harpsichord and the body of a lute. We don't know if there are any pieces specifically written for this instrument, but we can assume it is appropriate to perform transcriptions of Bach on the modern classical guitar.

The most recent: Polish composer and guitarist Marek Pasieczny is at the forefront of modern classical guitar composition, which is exemplified through 'Spiffy'. The visual aesthetics, extended techniques and hip-hop vibe of the work show how he has expanded the timbral and stylish possibilities of the instrument.

Koha appreciated to defray expenses.
