Whisky harmornies, lonesome ballads and dirty blues

“You guys were really, really good!” Iris Dement

Seasoned Wellington based acoustic duo Kim and Dusty have won over fans from Bluff to Whangarei with their unforgettable harmonies and onstage banter. They have played to many of the smaller, forgotten towns and hidden places while also featuring at larger festivals and venues.

They love traveling the highways of New Zealand thankful to be making new friends and seeing old ones.

Dusty is a multi-instrumentalist steeped in traditional American Roots music and is best known for his exciting mandolin playing. He is often seen playing a range of instruments including Guitar, Fiddle, Banjo and Mandolin in many different groups as well as being an accomplished singer. Currently he is performing as a member of The Federal String Band, The Frank Burkitt Band, The Hardcore Troubadours and most recently alongside Gerry Paul and Richard Klein in The T-Bone Trio.

Kim Bonnington was born into a musical family and spent Saturday nights sleeping on a beanbag while her parents played gigs in the small country halls around Nelson. Reared on a solid diet of Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, her roots are firmly planted in traditional country music, the country rock of the 1970s and the neo-traditional 1980s. She is currently working on a solo album with Wayne Mason and Rob Joass.

Kim and Dusty have built a reputation on their unique interpretation of traditional and original songs backed with powerful and beautifully blended harmonies. Last year they released their Debut EP “Live at the Wellington Bluegrass Society”.

Kim and Dusty may or may not be supported by The Pipi Pickers. But given how these things go, they probably will.
