Black Asterisk

This is Hayley Theyers’ first solo exhibition at Black Asterisk, which will be on show concurrently with this year’s Black Asterisk Festival of Photography.

Join us for the opening preview as Hayley Theyers creates photographs because she likes to capture beauty. Her images, though, are not ‘prey’; instead, they capture something of beauty’s other, horror. Theyers’ highly manipulated photographic practice takes the repertoire of the fashion editorial and transforms the commercial trope into chilling, yet still beautiful works.

These affecting images possess a strange dichotomy between the artist’s un-subjective approach to photo-manipulation, which often brings mortality to the mind of the viewer, with her deep relationship with the choices of shoot location and model. Theyers is a self-taught photographer. She uses basic photographic equipment and free online photographic editing software. Theyer's second solo exhibition at Black Asterisk begins June 16 as part of this year’s 'B.A.F.O.P II', the Black Asterisk Festival of Photography.
