HMNZS Manawanui is a diving support ship, equipped with a compressor chamber and a wet bell to support divers. In addition she can undertake patrol and surveillance tasks in NZ waters. The ship is coming to Whitianga and this is a rare opportunity for you to have a good look over one of our ships.

What to Bring:
For safety, please wear closed toe footwear when embarking onto the ship.

Please also bring drinking water – as the ship will only be able to supply emergency water.

Sunscreen – there is little shade on-board.

Capability and Role. Manawanui is fitted with modern systems including a triple lock compression chamber (to 250ft), a wet diving bell, a 15ton crane and workshop facilities including electric and gas welding equipment and a lathe. With a range of 5,000 nautical miles MANAWANUI can also undertake peacekeeping and maritime security missions around NZ coast and in the South Pacific or across to South East Asia.

The Navy’s Operational Diving Team is often based on Manawanui. The dive team is trained for deep diving using mixed gas breathing apparatus, and is skilled in underwater demolition and unexploded ordnance disposal.
