Cantando Choir

Music by Camille Saint-Saëns and Antonio Vivaldi, presented by Cantando Choir and Friends, with Conductor Rupert D’Cruze.

Together with our soloists from the Dame Malvina Major Young and Emerging Artists’ programme, and accompanied by our small orchestra of local musicians all conducted by Rupert D’Cruz, Cantando Choir is pleased to present a concert of glorious music. Featured works are Camille Saint-Saëns "Christmas Oratorio" and Antonio Vivaldi’s "Gloria".

Cantando is delighted to welcome five exciting young soloists for the performance of these two works. All are past or present students of Dame Malvina Major and the Music Department at Waikato University. Singing with Cantando for the first time are soprano Blaire White, mezzo Cecily Shaw and tenor Filipe Manu. Filipe was awarded the second place in this year’s Lexus Song Quest. The choir is very pleased to welcome back alto Elisha Fai-Hulton and baritone Jonathan Eyres, who both featured in our Winter Warmer concert of 2015.

Accompanying the choir and soloists will be a small orchestra comprised of local musicians from Opus Orchestra and the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra. “This concert requires a specialized accompaniment,” explains Rupert, “which features organ and harpsichord in addition to the more usual strings, oboe, and trumpet”.

We look forward to seeing you there.
