Description:
This full day workshop has been designed for photographers who are interested in applying their skills to capturing images and footage from the air with drones. It opens an entirely new dimension to commercial photography and is an exciting field for professional photographers to get into.
This event will be split into two key training categories - theory and practical. Theory will take place in the comfort of one of Auckland’s top photography studios, White Studios. The practical will take place at an outdoor location near Mt Eden. By the end of the day you will have a clearer understanding of the rules associated with aerial filming and the technical aspects of it. All participants will have to chance to get a feel for flying a drone with the assistance of the class tutor.

The following information will be covered:
-Theory - Understanding the technical aspects of drones
-Civil Aviation Authority policies, aviation law and the rules
-Examples of aerial filming and the techniques used to create them
-Different types of drones and their payloads - how much do you want to lift?
-Working with safety procedures and flight checklists to improve safety and HOS
-Practical flight training
-Learning basic flight maneuvers
-How to file a flight plan with Airshare
-How to apply your photography skills to aerial filming
-Drone camera settings, frame rates, ND filtration and shutter speeds
-Post production techniques and getting the best out your aerial footage
-How to obtain different types of drone licenses from the Civil Aviation Authority and the advantages these provide to professionals

Tutor:
Jason Dorday started out working as a staff news photographer in 1993 and went freelance/commercial in 1999 shooting for magazines and news features up and down the country and the Pacific
Currently employed as a senior Visual Journalist with Fairfax Media, producing multimedia content for the companies newspapers and primarily their digital platforms. Jason undertakes training programs throughout the country training other Fairfax visual staff in drone flying and video production techniques.
