Navigation, storytelling, song and a Fijian Language class come together for this event at the Maritime Museum, inspired by the exhibition project Dravuni: Sivia yani na Vunilagi - Beyond the Horizon curated by Ema and Kaliopate Tavola.

In the lead up to Fijian Language Week, the class will be led by Tarisi Vunidilo. Tarisi is Secretary General of Pacific Islands Museums Association, a teaching fellow at the University of Auckland, and runs a Fijian Language community course.

During the day you will be exploring the Pacific canoes in Hawaiiki gallery - including the Fijian outrigger, Sema Makawa - as well as spending time in the exhibition Dravuni, hearing and sharing stories from Fiji. This is an event for the whole family with additional art activities for the young ones.

The Maritime Museum is close to the Britomart train station and half price parking vouchers available from the museum gift shop. Museum entry is free for Aucklanders with proof of address.

There is space for lunch by the water on the museum’s wharf. Feel free to bring your own lunch!
