Cellophonia brings together cellists from all around the country to attend masterclasses, workshops, and to take part in ensemble playing. This year's event features special guest artist Alvin Wong from the University of Melbourne; co-directors are Inbal Megiddo (Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music, Senior Lecturer in cello) & Andrew Joyce (Principal Cellist of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra). The event culminates in a concert, featuring the guest artists and participants.

There are three options for participants:

Option One:
- Cellophonia Ensemble - rehearsals and concert.
- An opportunity for cellists of any level to play with top musicians in a large ‘cello-only’ ensemble.
- Guest Artist Alvin Wong, Inbal and Andrew Joyce will play together with participants as part of the ensemble.
- Lunch and dinner on Saturday.

Option Two:
- Cellophonia ensemble – rehearsals and concert.
- Advanced ensemble - rehearsals and concert.
- Orchestral excerpts and auditions workshop with Andrew Joyce.
- Participation in masterclasses with Alvin Wong and Inbal Megiddo.
- A 30-minute private lesson with Alvin Wong, Andrew Joyce or Inbal Megiddo.
- Lunch and dinner on Saturday.

Option three:

Cellophonia taster for beginners. Beginner and intermediate cellists of all ages (Grades 1 to 4 standard approximately) are invited to join a Cellophonia taster session and to perform some ensemble repertoire in concert. If you don't feel ready for the full Cellophonia experience this is a great way to be part of the action! We can accommodate complete beginners to more experienced intermediate and will provide music in advance to work on with your teacher.

There will be a rehearsal on Sunday 20 November 4.30-5.30pm at the Hunter Council Chamber, followed by a performance at the Cellophonia Festival concert. You will also be invited to join in the full (50-plus cellos) ensemble performance of festive music at the concert.

This Cellophonia taster is offered free of charge. Just register at Eventfinda and send in your registration form.
