Over the years we’ve seen many techniques and trickery used to portray space. Celestial Cinema is a collection of short video clips across various genres that tracks the evolution of cinematic techniques through the decades.

Screened onto the Space Place planetarium dome, ten short films and clips depicting across a variety of genres will be introduced by Nga Taonga Community Screenings Coordinator Jane Paul.

With films spanning the past 100 years from 1902-2005, they range from animation and advertising to documentaries, news stories and silent films. Featured films include the delightful short film ‘A Trip to the Moon’ by the great George Méliès, George Eibey’s documentary ‘Soviet Sputniks’, and light-hearted clips, such as the advertisement ‘Bananas, they’re out of this World’.

Presented by Space Place and Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision.

When: Wednesday 25 May at 7pm
