Napier Civic Choir with Hawke's Bay Orchestra present -
Rossini's Stabat Mater with Brahms' Begrabnisgesang, Op 13, Nanie Op 82 and Gesang der Parzen Op 89

After the Stabat Mater was performed complete for the first time in Paris, early 1842, the Escudiers reported that: "Rossini's name was shouted out amid the applause, the audience left the theatre moved and seized the admiration that quickly won all Paris". The Brahms is a combination of three of his shorter choral works. These arouse a range of feelings of solemnity, intensity, power, urgency and vitality while also performing a rich stormy tapestry. The choral pieces demonstrate beautifully the extent to which choral thing permeates Brahm's orchestra writing.
