Implications of an Enlightened Life; Being Awake in a Time of Uncertainty
Dharma Talk by Geoffrey Shugen Arnold, Sensei
Entry by koha

The Buddha’s enlightenment liberated him from human suffering, awakening profound wisdom and compassion for all beings. What does this mean for today’s spiritual practitioners facing national and global challenges unique in the history of humanity? In this talk, Shugen Sensei will speak about the deep inter-relatedness of selfless wisdom and compassion, and how a spiritual path both challenges us to respond to the world’s needs, and helps us to find the courage and gentleness necessary to do so.

Shugen Sensei is the Head of the Mountains and Rivers Order, abbot and resident teacher of Zen Mountain Monastery, and abbot of the Zen Center of New York City. Shugen Sensei has been in full-time residential training since 1986; he received dharma transmission from Daido Roshi in 1997. While he lives primarily at the Monastery, he shares his time between there and the Zen Center of New York City. He has visited New Zealand to conduct Zen events for many years, and currently offers a programme in Nelson each July.

All welcome, entry by koha.
