Bartolomé de las Casas (c1484–1566) was a Dominican friar. He became the first officially appointed "Protector of the Indians." He spent 50 years of his life actively fighting slavery and the violent colonial abuse of indigenous peoples. Las Casas is often seen as one of the first advocates for universal human rights.

This talk is part of the series Seeking Truth: Celebrating 800 Years of Dominican Life.
