Ark in the Park

Experience the real Waitākere wilderness with Ark in the Park - a hugely successful mainland sanctuary for native species.

This Conservation Week join them and help 'bait' as part of their predator control programme. Baiting involves walking off track through the bush and replacing bait in stations. To thank you for your hard work you will be rewarded with a delicious BBQ lunch.

The predator control allows the existing flora and fauna to recover: trees and plants, invertebrates, native frogs, and birds. As well as this natural recovery, a programme of species restoration has started. Already there have been successful reintroductions of whitehead/pōpokotea, North Island robin/toutouwai, and kōkako. Ark in the Park is a partnership between Forest and Bird and the Auckland Council.

This event is suitable for teenagers and adults only. Physically challenging so a good level of fitness is required. You need to be able to walk several hours, off track, with a small load to carry and on an uneven and hilly terrain.

Email - nature.project@forestandbird.org.nz to register, and for further information about what to bring.

This event is part of Conservation Week 2016.
