A series of large oils on canvas which flow between rhythms of language, symbolic landscapes, and celestial triangulations; a reflection art history, and Crossman’s interest in science.

Represented by numerous private and public collections, with a painting career and exhibition history spanning some 50 years, Crossman is one of New Zealand’s most senior practicing artists.

Born in 1930, he studied at Elam in the late 1950’s; amongst the likes of Don Binney and Colin McCahon. He then pursued a teaching career, dedicating his life to the development and support of art within our education sector, courageously driving art appreciation in the 1960’s and 70’s with Penrose High School’s (now multi-million dollar) radical collection of NZ contemporary art from our leading painters at the time (Hotere, McCahon, Woollaston, Hanley, Maddox and Sutton etc); purchased with the proceeds from the school’s sale of pies and chips!

Crossman is a visionary, his paintings transcend Time’s boundaries, interweaving between narrative content, and paint, as a language. In all of the works, a keen sense of composition is displayed.

Extensively exhibited throughout NZ and overseas, Crossman latest exhibition coincides with 2016’s Matariki and the Transit of Venus.
