Mary Schnackenberg is one of the New Zealand blind community's true luminaries. Growing up at the then New Zealand Foundation for the Blind, she was the first blind student in the country to 'mainstream' at an intermediate school and later trailblazed her way through numerous other educational accomplishments, including becoming our first blind MBA in 1996.

In her time working at the Blind Foundation, she was instrumental in improving its library services. This included initiating the recording of audio magazines in addition to talking books, developing a telephone information service and transitioning from cassette to digital services.

A tireless advocate for blind and vision-impaired people, she has served on many advisory bodies and won numerous awards for her services including a CNZM in 2007. Mary will share her memories of the Jubilee Building and the other buildings in the Foundation precinct and highlight their importance to the blind community. Brought to you in association with the Blind Foundation. This event is vision impaired accessible.
