Selwyn Community Education, based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

This short course in Term 1 only runs Wednesdays 4 - 5 pm for three weeks starting 18 March 2015.

For all other terms, courses run on Wednesdays 4 - 5 PM for eight weeks. Courses start:
6 May 2015
29 July 2015
14 October 2015.

Yoga For Children aged 6 - 11 years. Fun classes using story and adventure to support learning through imitating, playing and singing. Parents are welcome to attend with their children.

Fun classes using story and adventure to support learning through imitating, playing and singing!

As with adults, the benefits of children practising yoga regularly are numerous. For example, yoga will help your child increase his/her flexibility, sharpen his/her mental focus, relax and may assist with anxiety. Other great benefits can include improved self-image and self-confidence, support for development of listening skills and powers of observation, as well as inspiration and improved imagination.

Children who regularly practise yoga are more likely to continue yoga into adulthood and therefore continue to benefit. Children can also benefit from the inner peace and coolness of mind that can come from a regular practice.

Sessions will include: warm-ups (warming the muscles and focusing attention), spinal flexibility through sun salutation, a yoga adventure or story with postures that are repeated over weeks, breath awareness, relaxation, sharing and games to practise new skills.

Teacher: Lekshe has been practising mindfulness, meditation and yoga since 2000 and Reiki since 2005. She is a mindfulness teacher and qualified yoga teacher and Reiki Master Practitioner. She currently offers mindfulness classes as well as Reiki classes, teaches yoga to children and adults and has worked with and mentored teenagers since 2003.
