Come and create crocheted poppies at Rotorua Museum as part of our World War One Centenary commemorations.

The Rotorua Yarnbombers will be here on Saturday 11 April and Sunday 12 April 2015 from 10am until 2pm to help visitors make these simple poppies with all materials provided.

The poppies created will be added to the growing World War One poppy installation in the Museum foyer.

On 25 April 2015 we particularly remember New Zealand’s first major engagement of World War One at Gallipoli, Turkey. While it was a terrible defeat, it has gone on to become a legend of sacrifice and this year commemorates 100 years since New Zealand soldiers landed at Gallipoli.

Individuals and groups can continue to make and donate crocheted poppies before and after this event to include in the display. Instructions for both knitted and crocheted poppies are available on our website.

Participation in these poppy crafts is free with Museum admission, which is free for locals Rotorua residents with relevant ID. General Museum admission: Adults $20, seniors $18 and children $8. For further information please contact Rotorua Museum, phone 07 350 1814 or email rotoruamuseum@rdc.govt.nz
