Up-cycling is the process of converting waste materials or items that have outlived their original use into something new and exciting. But it is more than just putting pieces together - it involves unwinding mental associations and reconstituting them… up-cycling projects are as boundless as your imagination!

In this up-cycling weekend workshop you will work with materials such as demolition timber to make a beautiful small mitred box.

You will learn about preparing old timber for reuse, using power tools, machinery and hand tools to make some simple joints and rebates. You can finish the box with Danish Oil, shellac or bees wax.

This course is ideal for first time woodworkers, and compliments our range of beginner level weekend workshops.

Tash started her foray into woodwork and furniture making in 2007 on Waiheke Island, where she was inspired to try woodworking at community education night classes. After several years of hobbyist woodworking Tash decided to retrain in 2012 taking a full time furniture maker’s course at the Centre for Fine Woodworking in Nelson.

Tash is passionate about using recycled timber and maximising the use of offcuts giving these a new life in up-cycled projects, and also like to work with sustainably grown timbers both native and exotics.
