TSB Bowl of Brooklands, Pukekura Park, New Plymouth

All Ages

Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival, gears up in New Zealand for 2015, with entries to the competition now open! Anyone can enter and anyone can win. $10,000 cash prize and a networking trip to Los Angeles up for grabs for the winner.

Entries close 1 December, the finalists will be announced mid-January and the gala outdoor screening event Tropfest will take place in the stunning TSB Bowl of Brooklands on Saturday 14 February. The films are viewed by an audience of around 8,000 people and celebrity judges, who select the winning film which is announced on the night.

Tropfest is open to anyone who wishes to enter – regardless of their background or experience. Tropfest films are unique in that they have all been made specifically for Tropfest, will premiere at Tropfest and include the Tropfest Signature Item (or TSI), which changes each year. The TSI for Tropfest February 2015 is 'wire'.

Tropfest began twenty-one years ago when director John Polson showed a six-minute film he made for under $100 at his local café (‘The Tropicana’) in Sydney for 200 friends and family. Today the FREE Australian event is attended annually by a live audience of over 150,000 film-lovers and hundreds of thousands more watching via its live national TV broadcast and other platforms.

In the past two decades, Tropfest has become recognised as one of the world's most exciting launchpads for emerging filmmakers. Tropfest is also known for securing the support of some of the biggest names in the international film community including Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Geoffrey Rush, Liev Schreiber and Tobey Maguire. Tropfest launched last year in New Zealand, Arabia and in the USA with Tropfest Las Vegas and Tropfest New York.

Enter a film on or before 1 December 2014 and plan a Valentines Day weekend excursion to New Plymouth for the Tropfest screening event on Saturday 14 February 2015. Bring a picnic and settle in to see the red carpet action. Winning film announced on the night!
