The Surgery Sprint Series has been a feature of the local club racing calendar for 20+ years now and for the last twelve years has been generously sponsored by The Surgery.

As far as motorsport goes it is fairly low-key, so is a great entry point for those who want to try their hand at motor racing. The format is simple: a pair of cars are released onto the track at 10 second intervals and they complete 3 laps from a flying start. Points are awarded according to the times each driver achieves and these points go towards individual and club prizes.

The requirements are also basic: road legal tyres, fire resistant overalls, helmet, a fire extinguisher fitted to the car with a metal bracket, a roll cage for all open cars and a Motorsport NZ Licence (day licences are available). Entry fee is just $80.

You don't have to have a rocket car to enjoy yourself on a race track and slower, unmodified cars are more likely to score more points. So whether you have a Herald, a TR7 V8 or something you'd rather not admit to, come and discover the thrill of motor sport for yourself.

Update:

Please note Change to Dates, as a decision was made to cancel the Easter round 1 of April 5.

This was the only April date available from Manfeild. As we all know that many people are away over the Easter break, in the interests of convenience we’ve gone with a May start date to the series this year

Series Dates for 2015

Round 1: Will now be May 24, hosted by Triumph Car Club

Round 2: July 12, hosted by Fiat Car Club & The Sprint Committee

Round 3: 9 August, hosted by MG Car Club

Round 4: 13 September, hosted by Capri Car Club (We can now offer discounted accommodation with Hotel Coachman for this event. Please call (06) 356 5065 and quote BAR 5 MAN) .

Round 5: 29 November, hosted by the Alfa Romeo Club (final round for the year)
