MADD Messenger

A MADD Messenger Theatre Production presents:

The Samson Story, When A Man Loves, is a multi-medium theatre production based on an Old Testament story about one mans divine purpose to free his people from oppression and reconnect them back to their true cultural roots and a higher calling as a nation. His endeavours are equipped with a supernatural strength given to him at birth, but with great responsibility. This kind of strength leads him to a cross-roads of self seeking power or power under control. The pathway he takes is determined by the various kinds of love that surround his life. There are many kinds of love in our lives, some bring the best out of us and others bring the worst. This production highlights the kinds of love that one man experienced to bring both the very best and the very worst out of him.

The kinds of love that will be presented, is patriotism, the love for his nation, culture and historical succession. Patriotism will lead a man to step boldly over societal and political boundaries, for the sake of his people, if not careful this kind of love swallows your inhibitions to free those in bondage, invigorating a hidden desire for power-over.

Maternalism, the love only a mother can have for the child she carries and bears into this world. The child she spent every subconscious minute worrying about, in the hope that every amount of love and hope planted in that child would yield an adult ready to change the world.

Parental love, the kind that comes from only what we know, we love our children and will do what it takes to help them achieve their ambitions, may not always be ethical, but we do because we want to them achieve and do well.

Lust, the emotion that comes from the satisfaction of the eyes and the outskirts of your heart. An emotion driven by unrevealed desires, that only satisfy momentarily, but will go against everything you stand for, often blinding you even those with the best of sights.

Materialism, the love that drives the beast of greed, where people no longer matter and all you crave is corruptible things of this world, often satisfying ones instant gratification, but leaving you hungrier than ever before.

Agape Love, unconditional love, that can only come from somewhere bigger than this world. This kind of love comes when we are often all alone and at our lowest pit in life and all we have is a spec size thought or feeling that we cling onto, enough to remind us of who we are, why we are here, giving us that second chance to refocus and reload and accomplish. How this appears is unique to everyone, but you know when you experience it, it is agape love.

Audiences of all ages will be riveted by this story, whether young or old, inexperienced in love or not, you will relate to any one of these love themes. While set in the Old Testament times, the language and music brought in, are to emphasise these themes and be relevant to this generation. The singers are as young as 8 years old, producing sounds that are soulful, sultry and raspy, only the kind that represents the complexities of love. The speed art is used to highlight the various facets of life, bringing it back to a simple need, that we all want to love and be loved...

There will be merchandise art, T-shirts and food on sale, we look forward to seeing you all there.
