Join Canterbury Museum’s Curator Human History, Sarah Murray as she talks about the collection of Dr Alfred Charles Barker and his family. Barker, the ship’s surgeon aboard the Charlotte Jane, his wife Emma and their children compiled a significant archive of manuscript and pictorial material about life in the early years of the European settlement of Canterbury. The highlights of this collection provide an intimate and engaging insight into the development of our city and its people.

Sarah has worked as a curator at Canterbury Museum for almost a decade. Over this time, she has curated numerous exhibitions including the popular Paua Shell House display and, more recently, Rise: Street Art and Beyond the Cordon: The Red Zones through the Eyes of the Police Photographers. Her areas of research are diverse and currently focus on the history of the First World War and the Canterbury earthquakes. Her most recent publication, Endurance and the First World War, was released in August 2014.
