2014 Special Guest Jack Hobbs (Curator of the Auckland Botanical Gardens) comments.

"My first experience of the Great Barrier Island Garden Tour was so fabulous I had to do it again. In November 2014 I was fortunate to be included in the northern tour, a quite different experience from the previous year's sojourn focussing mainly on gardens. The northern,”Kauri Tour” is reserved for those who have previously attended and includes Glenfern Sanctuary created by the late Tony Bouzaid, the uplifting Okiwi Passion edible garden, and a wonderful boat ride in Fitzroy Harbour. The focus is more on nature and spectacular scenery, a nice complement to the garden focus of the other tours. 'Spectacular by Nature' lives up to it's name whichever tour you take, and it remains the most unique and enjoyable garden tour I have experienced".

This is a unique opportunity to view a variety of residential gardens on the Island. The guided tours will enable you to visit charming cottage gardens, to see spectacular coastal panoramas and experience the hidden native flora and birdlife. The ticket includes tour transportation, a scrumptious Morning Tea and a charming Devonshire Afternoon Tea.

The Garden Tour is a major fundraiser for the Great Barrier Island Community Health Trust to purchase equipment for use on the Island. The event involves many 100's of hours of community volunteer time and energy and the participant feedback has been outstanding. It has become a very popular event and national and international celebrities who have participated in the past tours, quote that it is 'a must-do event' for every keen gardener.
