On a whistle-stop speaking tour in New Zealand this month, two visiting experts from the USA will give a free public presentation in Grahamstown.

Dr Paul Connett is a retired professor of environmental chemistry and toxicology at St. Lawrence University New York. He is co-author of the book, “The Case Against Fluoride. How Hazardous Waste Ended up in our Drinking Water and the Bad Science and Powerful Politics That Keep it There”.
Dr William Hirzy is a former Senior Vice-President of the Union for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In 2000 he testified to a US Senate Committee, “Why EPA’s Union of Professionals Opposes Fluoridation.”

Also speaking at this event is a retired medical practitioner and specialist in work-related medicine, Dr Jane Beck of Thames.

Dr Beck says, “Thames is the only fluoridated area on the Coromandel Peninsula, and TCDC has announced that residents of the Thames Ward (which stretches from Waikawau to Hikutaia) will be able to reject fluoridation, or retain it, in a binding referendum to be held sometime this year. This public talk offers an opportunity for the people of Thames to increase their understanding of water fluoridation, to better enable them to make an informed choice.”

Although the two speakers from the USA will only visit Thames and Taupo, people from outside these areas are also welcome to attend the talks because fluoridation affects 48% of the New Zealand population.

After the Thames event on 24th February, Drs Connett and Hirzy will be presenting again in Taupo on the evening of 25th February (at the Great Lake Centre).
