As part of the Thames Heritage Festival, Graham Robinson from The Treasury archive and family research centre will lead guided tours through the historic Shortland area of Thames. What did our ancestors see when they walked these streets?

Be guided through Shortland, from the start of goldmining, early negotiations with Maori Chiefs, arrival of miners and early settlers, to the laying out of the streets, Government buildings, early business, churches, railway, shipping, and industry. Visit the world-famous Butt's Hotel - Captain Butt's famous establishment, and learn about the great fire of 1872 in Pollen St, plus much more. History comes alive in this fascinating tour.

Meet at Shortland Wharf at 5.30pm. Visit The Treasury for more information - we're open every day during Thames Heritage Week.
