Proud bogan Dr Dave Snell gives an insider’s perspective on this once maligned subculture. Hear about a community united by heavy metal, black T-shirts, and mullet haircuts.

Dave discusses his research about bogan identity, community, symbolism, and everyday activities. He addresses burning questions such as:
- How are bogans distinct in New Zealand culture?
- Why is it valuable to study bogans?
- Why has his research received so much media attention? Welcome to a world of hard rock, loud concerts, and grunty cars

Dr Dave Snell
Dave received a PhD in social psychology in 2012 after writing a thesis about bogans. He followed this with the book Bogan: An insider’s guide to metal, mullets, and mayhem. Now he has helped to produce a television show on the same theme. Dave lives in New Zealand’s bogan capital, Hamilton, where he is a researcher at the Waikato Institute of Technology.
