Classic Flyers in Tauranga brings attention to unsung war heroes of World War II by hosting the
New Zealand film premiere of the Return of the Catalina, on August 22nd.

In 1943, a few brave aviators flew top secret missions to reconnect Australia and New Zealand, to
England after the fall of Singapore. They provided a vital lifeline for the allied war effort, flying
across enemy territory in unarmed Catalina flying boats for up to 32 hours, carrying secret cargo
and VIPs.

These flying boats were in the air for so long that they were given the name of the
Double Sunrise Flights. These few brave aviators achieved what many thought was impossible -
reconnecting an empire on the brink of collapse. Despite all of this, the crews were never
recognised for their brave efforts, until now.

Finally these unsung war heroes have been recognised in a feature length documentary by
filmmaker Daniel Bunker. The Return of the Catalina follows a band of bold aviators as they
restore and fly a 70 year old Catalina flying boat halfway across the world from Spain to Australia
in order to recognise these unsung war heroes.

The film premieres at Classic Flyers in Tauranga and around the world on August 22.
Light refreshments provided.
Cash bar available.
