Dr. Eric Martinot will provide an update on global trends with renewable energy markets, investments and business models, and give updated cases of how cities and communities are applying renewable energy profitably and in service to local goals. Many community, peer-to-peer and household-based business models are emerging strongly, including integration with heat supply (and district energy), air conditioning, flexible “demand response”, time-of-use pricing and electric vehicle charging. He will also discuss the “Global 100% Renewable Energy” campaign and the campaign’s “Global Progress Panel” he is chairing to track global progress at the local level.

Eric Martinot is an internationally recognised scholar, writer and teacher on the subject of renewable energy. He is professor of management and economics at the Beijing Institute of Technology. He serves as senior fellow with the China National Renewable Energy Center, the California Public Utilities Commission, and the Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies in Japan, and as teaching fellow with Victoria University of Wellington. He authored the REN21 Renewables Global Futures Report, and was lead author until 2010 of the REN21 Renewables Global Status Report. He was formerly a senior energy specialist with the World Bank. He has written 70 publications on renewable and sustainable energy since 1990, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
