Acclaimed biographer Rachel Barrowman tells the story of New Zealand’s most successful and best-loved novelist, Nelsonian Maurice Gee.

Interweaving Gee’s life with his fiction, Barrowman illuminates the unassuming ‘man in the grey cardy’ alongside his unsettling stories. Immaculately researched, with full access to her subject and his records, Barrowman’s biography offers a fascinating portrait of a writing life.

Rachel Barrowman is a biographer and historian whose books include Mason: The Life of R.A.K. Mason, winner of the 2004 Montana New Zealand Book Award for Biography and Memoir.

Rachel will be in conversation with Ian Littleworth, Manager Nelson Libraries.

Come early to order coffee - when the talking begins the machine is turned off!

Listen later to selected sessions broadcast on Fresh FM.
