“All I know is that I’m more in love with poetry, whatever it is, than ever,” says Bernadette Hall.

She has won numerous awards and has performed her work at festivals from New Zealand to New York. Bernadette lives at Amberley Beach and in 2008, co-founded the Hagley Writers’ Institute.

“Bernadette Hall’s poems are the work of a questing, generous, civilised mind, one that quite knows what its values are and says so in ways that are definingly unique.” Vincent O’Sullivan
Marty Smith grew up in a time when smoking was communal and companionable, and the people she loved floated through a blue haze like mirages.

Her first book, Horse with Hat, is a conversation with her father, who loved books and ideas but found it hard to breach his WWII silence.

The collection was a finalist in the 2014 Post Book Awards and won the Jesse Mackay Award for Best First Book of Poetry. Marty teaches at Taradale High School in Hawke’s Bay.

Join us at 12.30pm to settle in, poetry begins at 1.00pm.

Platters are available from the Mahana Cellar Door, pre-orders to 543 2817 ext 8.
