This is a 2 day introductory weekend class which is suitable for all levels

Tutor Shea Stackhouse will be teaching Pattern welded steel/Damascus steel, this involves the ancient art of folding iron to make steel which has delicate patterns like woodgrain. . Make your own 60-100 layered billet that you could use in future projects such as knife making or jewellery.

Class Content

After a brief introduction to metallurgy and the theory of pattern making, you will begin forge welding a 10 layer billet of carbon steel and nickel alloy steel.
Once fused into a single block and drawn out, it will be cut into 8 to 10 pieces, re stacked and re welded into a 80-100 layer billet.
The billet is then submerged in acid to reveal the layers and patterns.
