So this month’s theme was Academy Awarded Best Pictures. And it was close, but you guys voted for Mr Rocky, so on Monday 2nd March we’ll be getting the big guy and his guns up on the screen.

Rocky is a 1976 American sports drama film directed by John G. Avildsen and both written by and starring Sylvester Stallone. It tells the rags to riches American Dream story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated but kind-hearted Italian-American debt collector for a loan shark in the city of Philadelphia. Rocky starts out as a club fighter who later gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship.

The film, made on a budget of just over $1 million and shot in 28 days, was a sleeper hit; it earned $225 million in global box office receipts becoming the highest grossing film of 1976 and went on to win three Oscars, including Best Picture. - wiki

"Stay in school and use your brain. Be a doctor, be a lawyer, carry a leather briefcase. Forget about sports as a profession. Sports make ya grunt and smell. See, be a thinker, not a stinker."

We're back to screening on the first Monday of the month, so ready yourself for a year of awesome, free, themed movies at The Cross. Pre-screening show and quiz will start at 8pm, so get in early to get yourself a front row bean bag spot. Rocky will start at 8:30pm.
