New Zealand Open Billiards ( Level 3 World Ranking ).

This is the hardest Billiard Tournament to win in New Zealand.

Many players from around the World are competing again for this coveted `Title'.

Last years Hamilton Open and also the NZ Open Billiards winner, Auckland's Grant Hayward has had a world ranking of #25. He has not played Billiards in New Zealand since ... BUT he is back ! Hayward has won this Championship twice ... but so has another Kiwi. He is Hawkes Bay's Cueist Paul Stocker who was a beaten finalist last year.

Now, Christchurch's Gary Oliver has also won this tournament ... but he has also been NZ Champion an incredible 12 times ... and he is the current NZ Billiards Champion taking that Title at this Club so he will feel at home. ... wow .... what a pedigree that is.

Hang on !!! There is a 5 times winner of this Championship in the field . He is from the UK ... his name is Peter Shelley. Shelley has just won the Capital City Open Billiards, but then lost to Oliver in the recent Bay of Plenty Open Billiards. Shelley however loves this Hamilton Cosi Club and seems to be over his recent leg operation.

Readers can understand now why this is the hardest Championship to win here. This Tournament also has a world record attached to it. In 2007, current World #1 Peter Gilchrist (Singapore) made the world record break of 1,346 on `table 4' at the Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club where the tournament is held again this year.

There are still other International cueist's. The UK has the very popular Andy Draper, from India there is the highly world ranked and quick Sushrut Pandia, along with Adesh Shetkatkar. Australian cueists include the `evergreen' Brian Moulday, Graeme McNeil, Charlie Lowe and Alex Kay.

Waikato has their Billiard Champion Darren Taylor and NZ B grade Billiard Champ Matt Scarborough.

The current North Island Champion, Wellington's Zac Guja is among a team from the Capital City which includes Neil Gyde, Russ Deluhunty, Cameron Rowe and Pat Edwards.

On the Friday evening of the 25th Sept, the NZBSA takes all the players, spouses, managers and Sponsors to the Cambridge night Trots.
This is a wonderful enjoyable evening when Harness Racing Waikato really `spoils us'.

The Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club in Claudelands Road is worthy of being visited by anybody wanting to enjoy friendship.

This particular weekend is special, world class competition showing an intreging mixture of different cueing actions and sportsmanship.

There is an extra bonus prize of $1000 for the first Player to get a 1000 break in this NZ Open Billiards. Who will get it ?

Whenever there is an International Tournament of this calibre, there is World Class Referees. New Zealand is very lucky to have the dedicated Dan O'Sullivan as Tournament Controller who incidentally is also the NZBSA Secretary.
