NMC presents JAZZ SLAM 2015 - The second of three nights of mind blowing original Christchurch JAZZ hosted at Orange Studios.

Jimmy Rainey

Jimmy Rainey is a young emerging saxophonist from Christchurch, NZ. Drawing his influence from a growing variety of artists and genres, Rainey has a sound that is always evolving. Joined by a group of the city’s rising jazz musicians, Rainey and band will be performing a set of original modern jazz, as well as new interpretations of standards.

Rainey is currently completing his third year of study in the CPIT Jazz degree, majoring in both performance and arranging. He frequently performs with a number of Christchurch based groups, such as the Justice Brass Band and Symposium Big Band. He has also recently toured around New Zealand with Canadian trumpet player Mike Field, and also as a member of the New Zealand Youth Choir.
Reuben Derrick

Reuben Derrick’s Poltroon

Reed player and sonic artist Reuben Derrick recently returned from the Music Omi residency in New York, where he explored collaborations with exciting artists from many different musical and cultural backgrounds. His local project Poltroon will feature musical delights Maree Thom-bass and Jonty O’Connor -drums who will share an exhilarating journey of vibration, rhythm, melody and texture.
